Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities for VPK students.
  • Follow the VPK curriculum and daily classroom schedule.
  • Create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Prepare children for kindergarten by supporting early literacy, math, social, and emotional skills.
  • Observe and document children’s progress and development.
  • Complete required VPK assessments and maintain classroom records.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting classroom.
  • Communicate professionally with parents regarding their child’s progress and classroom activities.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and ensure the safety of all children at all times.
  • Follow all school policies, VPK requirements, and DCF rules and regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with administration and other staff members.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required.
  • Assist with classroom routines, transitions, meals/snacks, and other daily needs.
  • Perform other classroom-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Preferences
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet all Florida VPK instructor requirements.
  • Active Florida Child Care Staff Credential/ CDA.
  • Completion of required DCF child care training hours.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Level 2 background screening eligibility required.
  • Previous experience working with preschool or VPK-aged children preferred.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with Creative Curriculum preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, patient, and professional.
  • Strong communication skills with children, families, and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
